Green Drinks for Optimal Health
If you have not tried green drinks yet, your body is in for a treat. Since green drinks are made from raw, whole foods, what you are drinking is highly nutritious, containing not only a host of vitamins, but also amino acids, phytonutrients, enzymes and minerals. Since they are in liquid form, the body readily absorbs them. If your green drink is made from grasses and plants, you are also receiving a significant amount of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has a molecular structure and chemical elements similar to a human being’s blood and helps deliver oxygen to the body.
Leafy green vegetables have the greatest amount of chlorophyll. Rich in antioxidants, vegetables should be a staple of any juice you make. Excellent vegetables to include in green drinks are spinach, celery, broccoli, green peppers, tomatoes, zucchini or cucumbers, to name just a few. Be sure to always choose organic, preferably certified organic vegetables and fruits.
Fruits combined with vegetables make a great smoothie, but be sure to limit the amount of fruits to 20-25% as they contain sugar. Even the sugar found in fruit in large amounts is not kind to the body. Try to stay with organic vegetables, which should also be pointed out, helps keep the PH in the body balanced to an ideal 7.4. Vegetables are alkalizing and off-set the acid we consume in much food, such as red meat, sugar or dairy.
Another outstanding green drink is one made with green powders such as wheatgrass, oatgrass, barley grass, alfalfa, spirulina or vegetable powders. There are many outstanding green powder foods on the market (and featured on this page) that include many of the grasses and vegetables. It’s good to add them to alkalized water, however. Special water purifiers are available that will alkalize tap water (the best are reverse-osmosis) or you can add PH drops to balance acidic tap or distilled water.
